A Truly Inspirational Story of the World’s Most Courageous One-Armed Surfer

Bethany Hamilton has become a source of inspiration to millions through her story of faith, determination, and hope.

Born into a family of surfers on February 8, 1990, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, Bethany began surfing at a young age. At the age of 8, she won both the short and long board divisions in her first surf competition.

At the age of thirteen, on October 31, 2003, Bethany was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark while surfing off Kauai’s North Shore.

The attack left Bethany with a severed left arm. After losing over 60% of her blood, and making it through several surgeries without infection, Bethany was on her way to recovery with an unbelievably positive attitude.

Miraculously, just one month after the attack, Bethany returned to the water to continue pursuing her goal to become a professional surfer.

Bethany has grown from a young teenage girl with aspirations of becoming a professional surfer into a professional surfer with aspirations of becoming a beacon of inspiration and hope.

Through the platform of professional sport, Bethany has been able to touch a large number of people with her message, charitable efforts, and overall spirit.

Bethany has her own foundation, Friends of Bethany, which supports shark attack survivors, traumatic amputees, and serves to inspire others through her life story, and is involved in numerous other charitable efforts.

In early 2012, Hamilton met Adam Dirks through mutual friends.

They became engaged in April 2013, and married on August 17, 2013 in Kauai, Hawaii.

Since the attack, she has been a guest on numerous television shows. Her manager Roy “Dutch” Hofstetter, who went on to produce the film “Soul Surfer”, managed Bethany’s rise through the media from “shark attack victim” to “inspirational role model”.

In 2004, MTV Books published Hamilton’s book, Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board.

On April 8, 2011, a feature film Soul Surfer, based on her 2004 book, was released.

What do you think that what did we have experienced first? War, peace or love. This question is as tough as to decide who came first among a hen and an egg. If you read the international history, one can find number of wars and then lots of peace programs followed by them. Generally we think about peace only after noticing the economic and social losses we receive as a return gift in war independent of final result. Peace is nothing but a mutual understanding not to hurt anyone. This feeling of not hurting with an outline of caring is called as love in our language.

Either you can love or hate. There is no other such feeling in this world to bind everyone together. Love and hatred are two sides of a coin. Love never comes alone. When a patriot loves his country he starts hating enemy countries at the same time. Our parents teach us to make good friends and we learn to hate bad people. Our surrounding teaches us to differentiate good and bad and makes us mature. But no one teaches us to transform bad into good. Bad remains bad and sometimes it becomes worst. And our hatred transforms into a war one day. One of the popular US writers Bill Watterson once quoted “How come we play war and not peace?” “Too few role models.”

Finding balance between security and passion

All of us, at least once in our life find ourselves at cross roads forced to choose either security or passion. It is either engineering or film making, either being a writer or a banker, either pursuing a degree in dance or economics. It is always either, seldom both. Research has shown that the happiest are those people who manage to find a balance between passion and security, be it personal or professional life.

We all want a job that makes us want to get out of the bed every day. After all, did we spend our time attending lecture after lecture and submitting numerous assignments and projects only to end up doing what we don’t like for the rest of our lives? Steve Jobs in his infamous speech says, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.” It might have worked for Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Sachin Tendulkar and a countable few others.

We have often heard, “Follow your dreams. Do what you love to do”. This is also the general ideology youngsters would like to follow to choose their career. But not all of us end up in a job that we are passionate about and that which provides enough financial security. Many may argue that passion drives careers but when you do what you love for a career, the passion quotient deters a bit. There are very few people who figure out what they want to do early in life, most often than not, others join the race after trying their luck in their field of passion. This is mainly because of expectation. When the work environment fails to match you’re passionate intensity for the job in hand, it is a major letdown. If we carefully study the career paths, employees slowly begin to love their work in spite of no evidence of pre-existing passion.

Serendipitous Serendipity

The human brain amuses me to a great extent. Being not much more than a curious mix of chemicals and electricity, it is an organ that operates and coordinates all thoughts and operations of the body. This it accomplishes through a combination of accumulating data and through a rational, analytical and intuitive thought process using which it identifies and executes the most optimal solution. Knowingly or unknowingly, we come to a conclusion that any outcome other than what we think to be optimal, as a failure. To us, any failure that occurs is because of lack of any of the above mentioned layman brain characteristics. Surprisingly, the outcome is not always a failure.

I am a MAN

Because I'm a man, when I lock my keys in the car, I will fiddle with a coat hanger long after hypothermia has set in. Calling the AAA is not an option. I will win.

Because I'm a man, when the car isn't running very well, I will pop the hood and stare at the engine as if I know what I'm looking at. If another man shows up, one of us will say to the other, "I used to be able to fix these things, but now with all these computers and everything, I wouldn't know where to start." We will then drink a couple of beers, as a form of holy communion.

Because I'm a man, when I catch a cold, I need someone to bring me soup and take care of me while I lie in bed and moan. You're a woman. You never get as sick as I do, so for you, this is no problem.

Steve Jobs (1955-2011, 56), founder of Apple Inc, gave this amazing and inspirational speech to Stanford University graduates on June 12, 2005.

I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots.

I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out?

It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: "We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?" They said: "Of course." My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college.

Tess was a precocious eight year old when she heard her Mom and Dad talking about her little brother, Andrew. All she knew was that he was very sick and they were completely out of money. They were moving to an apartment complex next month because Daddy didn't have the money for the doctor bills and our house. Only a very costly surgery could save him now and it was looking like there was no-one to loan them the money. She heard Daddy say to her tearful Mother with whispered desperation, “Only a miracle can save him now.”

Tess went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. No chance here for mistakes. Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall’s Drug Store with the big red Indian Chief sign above the door. She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment. Tess twisted her feet to make a scuffing noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster. No good.

A philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, about 2 inches in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

It’s true no one knows destiny, this girl Julie who used to fear love and hate smokers has fallen in love with one of his class mate… who was a chain smoker. She used to tell his father’s story to him every-time they met expecting him to quit smoking. She realized that he has started avoiding her as his friends used to tease him whenever he used to smoke with them. Julie wanted to see him happy so she stopped objecting him :’( and just after 3 months of her relationship she realized that he is suffering from a lung disease called emphysema caused due to smoking.

He has fallen seriously ill and his treatment started, it continued for 2 years… many times his health became so worst that doctors also thought he will die !! But it was Julie’s love who kept him alive and recovering, all these 2 years she spent all her time with him in the hospital… she stopped going to college.. fought with her mother, friends & relatives… invested all her pocket money… and thus she defined love…?

The Boy Recovered And Has Quit Smoking !! He Has married Julie And now they both are living happily together !! He always feels guilty for not listening to his Love ? 

earlier. He now gives one message to everyone “Do 100 things that friends asks you to do, but please don’t do at-least that one thing that your love don’t want you to do ..?” 

“Friends, i will not say Smoking is dangerous for health because that is already written on the box of cigars… but i will like to tell you… that you started smoking for yourself, now quit it for someone who loves you !! 

Next time when your Love or your parents ask you not to smoke… recall this “True Love Story” and answer yourself that do you want them to suffer for a mistake that you are doing today”.???

Human Beings and Frogs - Inspirational Story ♥

Human Beings and frogs are the two creatures in nature who have tremendous power to adjust. Put a frog in a vessel of water and start heating the water. As the temperature of the water rises, the frog is able to adjust its body temperature accordingly. The frog keeps on adjusting with increase in temperature. Just when the water is about to reach boiling point, the frog is not able to adjust anymore. At that point the frog decides to jump out. The frog tries to jump but is unable to do so, because it lost all its strength in adjusting with the water temperature. Very soon the frog dies. 

What killed the frog? Many of us would say the boiling water. 

But the truth is what killed the frog was its own inability to decide when it had to jump out.

We all need to adjust with people and situations, but we need to be sure when we need to adjust and when we need to face. There are times when we need to face the situation and take the appropriate action. 

If we allow people to exploit us physically, emotionally or financially, they will continue to do so. We have to decide when to jump. Let us jump while we still have the strength! 

MOM's Heart...

A 16 year old boy asks his Mum: "Mum, what are you going to get me for my 18th birthday ??
The Mother answers, "son that's still a long way"

The boy turns 17 & one day and he faints. His Mum takes him to the hospital & the doctor said "Madam your child has a bad heart". 

The child On the stretcher Says, "did he tell you I'm going to die?" "Mum Starts crying". The boy finally recovers on his 18th Birthday, he comes home& on his bed was a letter his mum had left him.

The letter said "Son if you are reading this its because everything went well. Remember the day you asked me what was i giving you on your 18th birthday & didn't know what to Answer you??.

"I gave you my heart" take care of it and happy Birth day Son"

The mother was dead because she had to give up her heart to her son. Nothing is bigger than MOM's Heart...
